Groundbreaking Ceremony For Big Brothers And Big Sisters!

by The Underwood Team

Big Brothers and Big Sisters is an organization in Midland,TX put together by very helpful and determined individuals. Seeing people put together such a heart warming organization is just awesome! Big Brothers Big Sisters is when kids ages 5-16 come to the program and they will be matched with their "Big" based on their personalities. This program is all about spending time with one another, helping the child grow to their full potential and simply make each individual feel special.

There is a community based and school based organization. The building in Midland, TX has gradually added more and more kids and they are needing more space! The plan for the future new building is to double the space. This new space will hopefully be completed by next summer. Kay Crites is the executive producer, she states, " We're serving 100 kids or so right now and we have well over 100 children on the waiting list."

This new building will break ground Thursday at  714 W. Louisiana Ave at 2p.m.

Should I Buy A Home Now?

by The Underwood Team

Do you ever catch you self thinking, " should I buy a home now?" With the economy the way it is, shifting back and forth, its probably a question you think of quite frequently! Some clients are concerned that home prices may fall further than they have already. They are assuming that the best course of action is to wait for the bottom in the market and then buy. The problem to this approach is that you don't know where the bottom is until you see it. In other words means you've missed it!

Home prices are one factor in determining your cost of ownership, but so are interest rates and financing availability. Since your monthly mortgage payment is a combination of paying down your principal and paying the interest owed, if home prices come down a little further, but interest rates go up, it could cost you even more to service a mortgage on an identical home!

While a home is a major investment, it is also the center of your personal life, Its so important to live in a home that reflects your fast and values, yet is within your financial comfort zone. To that end, it may be more important to lock in todays interest rates!!

Please call Re/Max 1st Choice- The Underwood Team if you need assistance finding the home of your dreams or if you need help finding the home in your price range! We would love to assist you!

Texas Wildfires

by The Underwood Team

Midland, TX

Several Texas wildfires are roaring across Central Texas. As we waited upon the possibility of rain from hurricane Lee, Texas got the wind currents rippling across Texas and even a cold front. This did not help the Texas fires stay stable.

Monday, in Bastrop County a fire destroyed nearly 500 homes. This is not the end of these fires. As of yesterday, The Texas Forest Service responded to 22 NEW fires for approximately  8,000 acres.  Also, in the last 7 days the Texas Forest Service has responded to 181 fires covering a numerous amount of acreage.

We still need to pray for rain in Texas! Texas is having its worst drought period since the 1950's. The drought will continue to remain until we get a sufficient amount of rainfall.

In Mondays paper it was stated that Governor Rick Perry even left his trip early from South Carolina to help his people in the state of Texas.  Perry stated, " I'm not paying attention to politics right now, there will be plenty of time for that. Peoples lives and their possessions are at stake, and that's substantially more important."

The extreme drought conditions Texas is in, the rolling wildfires, and the suffering people and animals REALLY need prayers!

Excess Growth Within Midland Schools

by The Underwood Team

Midland, TX

Not only has there been an increase in jobs and housing, etc. but, schools in Midland just began and MISD (Midland Independent School District) realizes that there also needs to be an increase of teachers in the area. This is great for Midland, but this means 16 new teachers need to be hired by the end of September and the plan is to make that happen.

Since last fall there has been a 1,565 increase in enrollment. This has caused teachers to have 30+ kids in their classrooms. To decrease this rate there will need to be 9 regular education positions open at 7 schools and 7 bilingual positions open at 4 campuses. It is also been stated that usually after Labor Day weekend more students will join the schools as well.

This is great for the Midland area, but Superintendent Ryder Warren States, " the hiring of new teachers will increase costs for the district, their salaries will come from the district's reserve or by cutting something else from the $162 million balanced budget."

Let Midland continue to grow!!

God Bless, Have A Great Day!
